Coco Before ‘Chanel’

Amelie was the film that introduced the world to Audrey Tautou and now she will immortalize famous fashion designer Coco Chanel. The film follows Chanel’s life prior to becoming famous, her childhood, her time as a cabaret singer and the love affairs with Etienne Balsan, a horse breeder and Arthur Capel who was influential in guiding her to a career in fashion. The film was envisaged with Tautou in mind. Anne Fontaine who will be directing the film said she would only be involved if the actress was interested. Fashion fans will still have the opportunity to see two other movies based on the designer. One is about Chanel’s relationship with Igor Stravinsky and will reportedly be directed by William Friedkin, it will star Marina Hands; the other is being written by Oscar nominee Danièle Thompson.

In most relationships, trying to distinguish where, “she begins and where he ends”, usually gets tangled up in the throws of great romance and a long term partnership.

Realistically many relationships comprise of some or other forms of dependency, but when do you determine when the bonds that are formed between you and a loved one is bordering on “unhealthy? In other words, how do you know if the relationship the two of you have is a co-dependent one?

Co-dependency, which is a psychological term that broadly refers to an unhealthy emotional dependency on someone else, can be the most destructive (for both parties involved) and hardest relationships to live with and to break away from. An individual who is co-dependent will only find self-worth and fulfillment when they are trying to please someone else and their entire existence is dependant on other people to tell them who they are.

If you’re a fan of the video game industry, then the soon to be released slim PS3 will surely appeal to you. The new slim PS3 will feature a larger hard drive and a dual shock three controller and of course a slimmer, sexier design. Over recent months sales have significantly dropped, so this is Sony’s way of trying to boost sales once again. It’s due to be released on the 18^th of August though details are still vague. Sony has still denied that any price cuts will be made. With the Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 still selling considerably well, it is clear that Sony will be forced to drop the price sooner or later.

Going Green in the Garden this Summer!

Amidst the recession, many people have taken measures to ensure cleaner and healthier living. This includes taking a turn to gardening, a great pastime and also a great source of creating fresh produce… in your own backyard.

Current economic times have seen an increase in a Canadian organic fertilizer. “When the economy slips like it has, horticulture sales go up. People travel less and stay home. And when it gets really bad, they grow their own food.” Says president of Gaia Green Products.

Digital Camera meets mini-projector

We’re all familiar with the ever-changing technology in digital camera these days, though who would have expected this nifty little addition. Say hello to the COOLPIX S1000pj. Nikon will be the first ever company to integrate a mini projector into its latest piece of technology. Though innovative, anticipate a hefty price tag to go with it.

The Nikon website claims it to be “your personal theatre on the go.”

South African Broadband Trends

So with the switch-on of the SEACOM cable, we’re in high hopes of receiving broadband bliss. Well, not so fast. While we eagerly await some overnight decrease in prices due to new competition, experts say that change is likely only well into 2010. Only a small portion is being shared into South Africa.

“It will take between five and ten years before the infrastructure backlog comes right,” Says World Wide Worx MD, Steven Ambrose.

Worth your weight in wine

We all mean well to end well. Mondays begin with promises and commitments to eat right, diet hard and hit at least two yoga sessions that week. But life has a tendency to run away with us and by Friday night, combined with a glass or two of wine, the Caribbean flavoured Lays chips don’t touch sides.

The trend to look out for this winter has just hit runways in Europe, its Russian inspired winter wear.

Think furry boots, military coats, printed smocks and ornate jewellery!

Pair a vintage winter dress with dark leggings in red, deep purples and blues, put on a pair of metallic/embellished heeled boots with fur and a long military coat and your Cape Town’s version of a runway Anastasia.

It’s the perfect outfit for our bitterly cold winter winds.

For a more feminine look leave out the leggings and opt for a pair of gladiator heels.
